4. The Tragedy of Tragedy Queen Meena Kumari
Meena Kumari was a story of life imitating art. She was well loved for her heartrending performances in painful roles which won her the tag of Tragedy Queen of Indian Cinema. However, it later came to be seen that the roles she played reflected the upheaval in her personal life. After separating from her husband, Kamal Amrohi, she took to the bottle. This breakup sent her spiraling down the path of alcoholism never to recover. Though she got back with her husband, her addiction had reached a point of no return and in 1972 she passed away due to liver cirrhosis.
