4. Isle Royale National Park, Michigan
This is an island in the middle of Lake Superior. It has pristine wilderness surrounded by the world’s largest body of fresh water. With lakeside hiking and back country adventure, it is one of the few national parks that closes in winter. Wolves and moose co-exist with bears in the forest area. This park is home to hundreds of freshwater clams, many varieties of snails, and insects.
