2. It Is A Societal Event
The reason that arranged marriages are still big among Indian families is because a large part of the decision-making is done by the elderly people. The marriage involves the efforts of trusted relatives, neighbours, family, friends, match making agents and so many others. The reason this can be seen as adverse is because, if a person does not wish to marry, the influence of the entire family and friends will weigh down on him and make it extremely difficult for him to go against the wishes of so many, perhaps, for fear of becoming a social pariah.
