6. Our Generation Seems To Be Breaking The Myth That Arranged Marriages Last Longer

It was always believed that arranged marriages help you adapt and adjust to your partner, thus helping both to develop a healthy relationship. However, if the couple is incapable of having even a normal conversation, how are they expected to develop a healthy relationship? Mutual consent and understanding are the only ways in which a marriage is capable of surviving so arranged or not, if these ingredients are not present in a marriage, the marriage is doomed to fail.

Given the independence and individuality of today’s generation, it seems only fair that they be given the opportunity to decide for themselves. It is clear that this system of arranged marriages that was once thought of as being ideal has a lot of cracks in it. Our generation believes a relationship can last if there is commitment on both sides and while arranged marriages have the probability of this, choosing your own spouse can provide more certainty. So it is not that our generation is afraid of arranged marriages; it is just that we prefer governing our lives by our own choices and not those of others.

What is your take on arranged marriage? Are you for it? Or, are you against it?
