A whiz kid setting many new precedents
Ashutosh Agarwal, pursuing a course in computer science in the IIT Patna deserves all the adulations he is getting because the achievement is nearly unprecedented. It is an off campus placement- to begin with. Besides, the talented 21 year old student of Patna IIT is yet to complete his graduation. Another first of its kind thing about this job is it is so far the highest paying job anyone from IIT Patna has bagged.
A thrilling, but steep ride
As anyone can anticipate, the journey from IIT Patna to a plum job in one of the top tier MNC of the world was not exactly butter smooth. His first stint with Google was at the last part of the 4th semester. He got a chance to participate in GSoC, a global program of Google that lets students write codes for its numerous Open source projects and includes stipends. That was just the beginning of this super exciting journey! Ashutosh worked from home and contributed to the company’s existing programming framework.
After wrapping the stint with GsoC, he was given the job offer. Initially, Google’s Human Resource department found out he was not a graduate and so offering him a full time job was not possible. That led to Ashutosh bagging a 3 month internship with the internet search giant. He went to NY to do the internship. The internship was over by August and then came the big job offer. Of course, he had to go through the expected grind before the job was finalized. There were several rounds of interviews, including telephonic ones. He will be working at the North American Office of Google after wrapping his studies.
What lies ahead?
Hitting the jackpot at the start of career may seem like a dream coming true for the majority, but Ashutosh seems rather unfazed by the stupendous success and possibilities. He said in an interview, “I had a great experience working there as an intern and the job offer is a dream come true. But this is certainly not the end, not the destination. I am very young and have a long way to go.”
The reactions: Amazement and ecstasy
As expected, the entrepreneur parents of Ashutosh are overjoyed with their son setting a new record. He was always a bright student throughout his career, but they did not expect this kind of gigantic beginning of his career. As the placement was not on campus, it took some time before his friends and classmates got to know. They did party and celebrate the achievement later, said Ashutosh. He also expressed his heartfelt thanks to his friends and family.
Google Eyeing Indian Talents
The news of Ashutosh landing up a plum job at Google has made headlines, but the truth is, the company is making similar offers to deserving and talented Indian students of late. A few weeks back, Google offered a 2 crore job to a student named Abhishek Pant from IIT-Khargpur. Google offered a similar high paying job to a Delhi Technical University student who also interned with the giant. It indicates Google is possibly keen on hiring talented Indian students for its operations.
