The Kalam Legacy
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam rose from humble beginnings to become one of India’s leading scientists and later a popular President. Always a man of intellect, he enjoyed being with people and they, in return, particularly youngsters, adored him.
Kalam’s early years were steeped in poverty when as a young boy he sold newspapers to supplement his family’s income. They encountered numerous tough times, but it was his desire to dream big that helped him reach where he did. One of his famous quotes is, “You have to dream before your dreams can come true.”
As President, he utilised every opportunity to address students to dream big so that they could become achievers in life. He was always thinking about the future of the nation. He fought to constantly inspire the youth and was dedicated to the welfare of his motherland.
Considered the most popular president of India, he became Head of State and occupied the post between 2002 and 2007. It was lack of consensus that denied him a second term.
