2. India’s Tryst With Destiny – Independence Day
Independence Day is celebrated across India on 15 August with a lot of pomp and grandeur. There are parades with colourful floats, marching bands, cultural events and stunning displays by soldiers and students. However, none of the festivities and celebrations come close to the one held in the capital city of Delhi.
Independence Day celebrations begin at the majestic Red Fort with the Prime Minister, addressing the nation and the Indian Tricolour is hoisted at the Fort in all its glory. Once the parade is over, the festivities and fun begin. The road close to Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi is transformed into a pedestrian-friendly stretch and this is one of the most happening areas of the city on 15 August. It hosts an array of cultural events and fun activities, such as live music, sumptuous food stalls and kite flying.
