The Festive Month – August

3. Teej Festival – Showing Gratitude To Gods, Goddesses And Nature

Teej Festival

This is a monsoon festival and celebrated primarily by the womenfolk of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Chandigarh. It is the time to celebrate the bounty of nature and welcome the renewal of life, thanks to the rain clouds. The women indulge in singing, dancing and wearing vibrantly coloured (yellow, red and/or green) clothes and swinging on swings hanging from branches of trees.

While Teej is celebrated with a lot of gaiety, it also has a religious connotation. It is used as an occasion to celebrate the eternal union of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. And Rajasthan is one of the best places to witness and participate in this festival. In the capital city of Jaipur, you can enjoy folk singers and dancers that hold processions and parades and the magnificence of the festival is heightened with chariots, colourfully adorned bullock carts and regally caparisoned elephants.
