4. Kerala’s Iconic Snake Boat Race
When Jawahar Lal Nehru, India’s erstwhile Prime Minister, visited Alleppey, Kerala, in 1952, the locals organised an impromptu snake boat race in his honour. This race impressed the Prime Minister so profoundly that he donated a trophy to the winning boat. And, this laid the foundation for the now-famous snake boat race that Kerala is renowned for.
The race is held on the second Saturday of August at the Punnamda Lake in Alleppy, and about 70 snake boats take part in it. It is one festive occasion that you definitely don’t want to miss. So, book your entry ticket for the event today!
