5. Onam – Intertwining of Mythology And Nature
This harvest festival not only celebrates the rich bounty Mother Earth yields, it also commemorates the homecoming of King Mahabali, a mythical king. Celebrated primarily in Kerala, Onam is filled with laughter, gaiety and enjoyment. The front courtyards of home are beautifully decorated with flowers to welcome the mythical king and people wear new clothes and step out of their homes to participate in games, dancing, sports and of course, snake boat races.
