6. Araouane, Mali
Lying 150 miles north of Timbuktu is Araouane. It is a small village and is located in Malian Sahara on the caravan route to Taodenni. It is home to only about 300 inhabitants and contains three mosques in its entirety. The highest temperature recorded is 130.1 degrees F.
