6. Araouane, Mali
Lying 150 miles north of Timbuktu is Araouane. It is a small village and is located in Malian Sahara on the caravan route to Taodenni. It is home to only about 300 inhabitants and contains three mosques in its entirety. The highest temperature recorded is 130.1 degrees F. Araouane exhibits hot desert climates and is characterized by extreme heat and lack of rainfall. The average annual rainfall is just about 45 mm and the annual mean temperature is 84.2 degrees F. The months between July and September are when rainfall is seen the most.
