The LGV sud-est, France boasts of being the first high speed rail line of the country. It links the city of Paris to the suburbs of Lyon. It was opened in the year 1981-1983 and runs for a distance of 409km on a double track railway line. The line has been further extended southwards by LGV Rhone-Alpes and LGV Mediterranean.
