6. Kedarnath Temple, Uttarakhand
The holy abode of Lord Shiva is believed to have been constructed by the Pandavas as an atonement for the sins committed during the battle with the Kauravs. It dates all the way back to the 8th century and is one of the most sacred temples around. Pilgrims are required to walk a full 14 km over the hilly surface in order to reach the temple. The temple is closed during the winter due to the harsh conditions and the idol is shifted to Ukhimath where it is worshipped.
